Having served 12 years in the Ukrainian Armed Forces after graduating from the Kyiv Naval Academy, Mykhailo is a seasoned security and defense expert.

 

As the Deputy Director of The Center for Army, Conversion and Disarmament Studies (CACDS), one of Ukraine’s most prestigious non-governmental think-tanks and voluntary association of experts from the armed forces, security and defense industry, Mykhailo’s work includes the promotion of Ukraine’s defense industry in the EU. For over six years he has been consulting Western companies on how to enter Ukraine’s defense market.

In the private sector since 2002, he gained his Master’s Degree in International Journalism from the Institute of Journalism, Kyiv Shevchenko National University (2007). There, he developed sector specific journalistic and analytical skills.

Having started his career as a journalist at Defense Express, he became the Editor-in-Chief of the Export Control Newsletter magazine, and then the Deputy Director of CACDS. Today, he  is regularly published in Defense Express, Dzerkalo Tyzhnia, Radio Svoboda, Dilova Stolytsia, Espreso, Lidovky, Komentari, NatoAktual.cz and other media.

 

He is the founder of the EU CACDS office in Prague (Czech Republic). and was responsible for the coordination of CACDS international activities, its regional sections, and projects with NATO and the EU. Mykhailo also partook in the publication of the CACDS Analytical Bulletin Challenges and Risks (http://cacds.org.ua/ru/bulletin/). 

 

Mykhailo is actively engaged in developments related to new generation warfare, Russia’s so-called hybrid warfare against the West and matters pertaining to national resilience.

He is fluent in Ukrainian, Russian and English. His special interests include research and analysis in defense and security, armed forces, new generation warfare, national resilience, geopolitics, history, psychology, half-marathon running.
